World of Colours

Stellar International Art Foundation has long been a supporter of Paresh Maity, who has been hailed as the Turner of India. In celebration of this long-standing relationship with the artist, Stellar embarked on the World of Colours project to showcase work by Maity from within the collection. With both a publication Paresh Maity: A World of Colours and accompanying exhibitions taking place at the Jaipur Literature Festival and Miami Beach during the time of the Art Basel fair, the project takes an in-depth look at the life, method and work of this acclaimed artist.

Calling watercolours his ‘heart and soul’, Maity is best recognised for his vibrant, passionate, colourful paintings that have been displayed across the world and in some of the most prestigious private and public collections. These include the British Museum, the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi, and the Vatican Embassy in New Delhi.

Felicitated by national and international institutions, including London’s Royal Watercolour Society and the British Council, Paresh Maity is the recipient of the Dayawati Modi Award 2013 for Art, Culture and Education. He has also been honoured with one of India’s highest civilian awards for his contributions to the Art world, Padma Shri, in 2014.

Born in Tamluk, a historical town in West Bengal in 1965, Maity received his Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from the Government College of Arts and Crafts, Kolkata, followed by a Master’s Degree from the College of Art, New Delhi.

Stellar continues to work with Paresh and are proud to have been able to collate the work so far of one of India’s most prolific artists.
